LeMieux Classic Riding Gloves

This is the glove for everyday work. LeMieux calls the stretch fabric breathable, and because the glove can go in the machine, you can simply wash it rather than saving it. Wash at 30 °C and let the gloves air dry, away from radiators and the tumble dryer.

If you ride dressage competitions, bear the colour in mind. Black only works with a black jacket; with a jacket in another colour you need a pair in a colour that the rules of your federation allow. If that is your situation, you can use this black pair for training and jumping and keep a light pair in the competition bag. For drivers, the groom also wears gloves, which makes a second pair easy to justify.

If you also wear this pair at the yard or out hacking, the touchscreen-compatible fingers help: you can use your phone in between without taking the glove off. And after a dirty job it can simply go in the wash at 30 °C.

All year round in mild weather; LeMieux calls the stretch fabric breathable. LeMieux does not state a lining, so for frost and winter work at the yard a lined model is more suitable.

For which discipline?

Dressage, showjumping, eventing, driving and leisure riding. In the eventing dressage test, black is explicitly permitted. In international dressage and under Paardensport Vlaanderen only when your jacket is the same colour.

When is another model a better choice?

For a dressage competition in a jacket of another colour, choose a riding glove from the range in a colour that the rules of your federation allow, such as white. For cold, wet yard jobs a lined work glove is the logical choice, such as the LeMieux Thermal Work, which the manufacturer lists as thick, waterproof and fleece-lined.

Open the hook-and-loop fastening, pull the glove on until your fingertips sit snugly in the tips, then close the fastening around the wrist.

Care as specified by LeMieux: machine washable at 30 °C, air dry away from a heat source, do not tumble dry. LeMieux gives no other washing instructions; the label inside the glove takes precedence.

Which size should you choose?

LeMieux uses standard clothing sizes. The shop carries X-Small to X-Large, with a numerical range per size as a guide. Those figures do not come from LeMieux and there is no size guide with hand circumference in centimetres, so if in doubt, have your hand measured in the shop.

Are gloves compulsory in competition?

In dressage and driving, yes; in showjumping and cross-country, no. Under the LRV they are optional, with white preferred in dressage. Rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country and change regularly, so check the rules of your own federation.

Can a black glove be worn in dressage?

Only when your jacket is the same colour. Internationally the rule is white, off-white or the colour of the jacket; Paardensport Vlaanderen requires white, buff or the colour of the jacket. In the eventing dressage test, black is explicitly permitted.

Is there a lining?

LeMieux does not state a lining for this model. For cold days a model that is explicitly lined is more suitable.
