Product Information

A sporty carbon look from Charles Owen

The Charles Owen EQx Hyda Matt Carbon Standard Peak is a modern riding helmet for riders who value comfort and a smart appearance. The matt carbon look with subtle gloss accents gives this helmet a refined, sporty finish without eye-catching glitter details.

With its classic Standard Peak, the Hyda keeps a timeless silhouette that suits an elegant dressage outfit as well as a sportier show jumping turnout. A versatile choice for ambitious leisure riders and competition riders looking for a helmet for everyday use.

Dial-Fit: a precisely adjustable fit

A riding helmet has to fit well to be worn correctly. That is why the Charles Owen EQx Hyda has a practical Dial-Fit adjustment system.

The dial at the back lets you adjust the fit of the helmet easily within the size range, so you can match it more precisely to your head circumference.

The system is especially handy if you want a helmet that is easy to adjust. It remains important to choose the right shell, though: a dial cannot fully correct the wrong size or a head shape that does not suit the helmet.

Mips®: extra attention to rotational forces

The EQx Hyda features Mips® technology (Multi-directional Impact Protection System). This system is designed to help reduce the rotational motion transmitted to the head in certain angled impacts.

Mips is an additional feature within the helmet construction. It does not prevent accidents and cannot rule out head injury, but it is a relevant feature for riders who deliberately choose a riding helmet with this technology.

Comfort during schooling and competition

During a long schooling session, you mainly want your riding helmet to be comfortable and stay in place. The lightweight construction of the Charles Owen EQx Hyda is designed for comfortable everyday use.

The removable, washable headband is a practical advantage if you ride regularly. You can hand wash it separately and replace it when needed.

The helmet is also compatible with EQx Standard and EQx 2.0 headbands. That makes care easier and lets you renew a worn headband without replacing the whole helmet straight away.

Matt Carbon: understated luxury in two colours

The Hyda Matt Carbon stands out with its matt carbon look combined with gloss details. You can choose from two smart versions:

  • Black Matte Carbon with Black Gloss: matt black carbon look with gloss black accents for a strong, timeless look.
  • Navy Matte Carbon with Navy Gloss: dark blue carbon look with gloss navy details for an elegant, understated finish.

The Standard Peak gives both versions a classic look. If you are looking for a riding helmet with a wider peak and more shade at the front, a Wide Peak version is worth considering.

When choosing a riding helmet, fit matters more than looks. Measure your head circumference with a soft tape measure, about one centimetre above your eyebrows, and compare the result with the available sizes.

The helmet should fit evenly without uncomfortable pressure points. When you move your head, the helmet should not shift easily. Always check the fit with the chin strap correctly adjusted.

Use the Dial-Fit dial to fine-tune the fit, not to make up for a shell that is too big.

If you school several times a week, an extra compatible EQx headband is a practical addition. That way you can let a washed headband dry completely before using it again.

The Charles Owen EQx Hyda Matt Carbon Standard Peak is an interesting choice if you are looking for a sporty riding helmet with a classic peak, an adjustable fit and Mips® technology.

Who is it for? Leisure riders, ambitious sport riders and competition riders who value comfort and a polished appearance.

When to use it? For everyday schooling, lessons and competitions, as long as the helmet meets the applicable competition rules.

Which disciplines? Including dressage and show jumping. For disciplines with specific helmet requirements, such as the cross-country phase in eventing, check the applicable rules.

When is an alternative better? When the shell does not suit the shape of your head, when you prefer a wider peak or when your discipline requires a different type of helmet.

Place the Charles Owen EQx Hyda level on your head, with the front edge at the right height above your eyebrows. Adjust the fit with the Dial-Fit system and fasten the chin strap according to the manufacturer's instructions. Before every ride, check that the helmet sits securely and comfortably. Clean the removable headband according to the care instructions and check the helmet regularly for damage.
