Description
The Cavalor Mash & Mix is a palatable mash for horses that you soak in water before feeding, here in a 1.5 kg bag. That smaller size travels well to a show or a clinic, and it lets you try the mash before buying a big bag. Feed it as an extra meal alongside forage and concentrates: after training, in warm weather, or when you are away from home. Once soaked it is soft, which also suits older horses and horses that chew dry feed less easily.
About this mash
The base is a mix of flaked and puffed grains: barley flakes (27%), expanded barley (10%) and expanded maize (5%). Flaking and puffing are heat treatments that open up the starch in the grain, unlike untreated cereals. Alongside these you will find oats, wheat bran, linseed, toasted soya beans, faba bean flakes and dried vegetables.
To prepare it, mix 1 part Mash & Mix with 1 part water at roughly 60 °C and let it soak for 15 minutes. Feed it next to forage and concentrates, as an extra meal or as a treat. Electrolytes and other supplements mix evenly through the moist mash, which comes in handy at a show. Fresh drinking water stays available at all times.
The analytical composition contains 13% crude protein, 7.5% crude fat, 6% crude fibre, 5% sugar and 32.5% starch, with an energy value of 0.89 EWpa/kg. Cavalor advises 200 to 300 g per 100 kg body weight per day, which works out at 1.2 to 1.8 kg per day for a 600 kg horse. A 1.5 kg bag therefore covers a few servings rather than weeks of feeding.
