Cavalor FiberBase Mix

The Cavalor FiberBase Mix is a fibre-rich, oat-free muesli for healthy, lively horses in leisure riding or light work. Within the Cavalor range this is a Level 1 feed, meant for horses without high energy requirements. The formula combines several fibre sources with flaked grains, topping up a ration in which good-quality forage remains the basis.

About this muesli

At 18.6% crude fibre the emphasis clearly lies on fibre. The composition includes alfalfa, spelt hulls, linseed hulls and soya bean hulls. FiberBase Mix is therefore worth looking at when you want a concentrate alongside forage that helps cover both the fibre and the energy side of the ration.

For energy the muesli contains barley flakes and maize flakes, among others. Flaking is a heat treatment that opens up the starch in the grain, unlike untreated cereals. There are no oats in it: oats deliver a lot of energy quickly and are widely used in sport feeds, but for leisure horses and others without high energy needs Cavalor considers that unnecessary.

FiberBase Mix supplies 0.7 EWpa/kg and 85 g digestible crude protein per kg. The analytical composition contains 12% crude protein, 3.5% crude fat, 8% crude ash, 18.6% crude fibre, 5.8% sugar and 14.2% starch, with 0.8% calcium, 0.3% magnesium, 0.4% phosphorus and 0.4% sodium. The feed is further supplemented with vitamins A, D3 and E and with trace elements such as copper, zinc, manganese and selenium.

Its moderate energy level suits leisure horses and horses in light work. If your horse works harder and needs more energy, a feed from a higher energy level in the Cavalor range is the better match. Cavalor advises 400 to 700 g per 100 kg body weight per day, which is 2.4 to 4.2 kg per day for a 600 kg horse. Divide the concentrate over several meals, feed it after forage where possible and always provide fresh drinking water.
