In showjumping, a white men's competition shirt with long sleeves is the least complicated starting point. The FEI rules ask there for a white collar, white cuffs with long sleeves, and a white tie, stock or choker. With a fully white shirt you no longer have to think about collar and cuff; only the tie is left to pick yourself.

Dressage and eventing. Internationally, the dressage rules prescribe nothing about the shirt and only the requirement of a white or off white stock or tie remains. The Belgian national rules do ask for a white shirt and, without a jacket, sleeves that cover at least the shoulders. In the eventing dressage test, short sleeves are permitted and the collar must be white or off white; for cross-country there is no shirt provision at all. All of that shifts over the years, so the current rules of your own federation remain decisive.

Warm weather. In very warm weather the ground jury can decide that riding without a jacket is allowed. The rules set no temperature limit for that; the wording stays qualitative. What is established is that the shirt must then have sleeves in showjumping. A long sleeve shirt like this one meets that requirement in any case, but on such a day it is also the warmest of the three possible sleeve lengths.

The practical side of white. White shows everything: sand from the arena, make-up at the collar, grooming grease at the cuff. At a competition with several starts, count on a second shirt and treat stains the same day. The long sleeve also sits right next to the leather of your glove and reins, so the cuff is the first part to get dirty.
