Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.
Rugs
How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.
Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.
The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information
Cavalleria Toscana's high-waisted Knee Grip breeches, here in two colours: Espresso and Windward Blue. The transparent grip sits at the knee, the high waistband has internal grip and the jersey has four-way stretch. Maddelin stocks both colours in XS, S, M and L. Breeches for training and everyday riding.
About these breeches
On Cavalleria Toscana's website this model is called "Women's Knee Grip breeches", with the subtitle jumping breeches with Knee Grip in technical jersey. Knee Grip is not only worn for jumping. Some brands call their Full Grip models 'dressage' and their Knee Grip models 'jumping'; that tells you about the grip type, not about who wears the breeches.
With Knee Grip, the seat stays free of grip. Whether you prefer that to Full Grip comes down to how it feels to you in the saddle. Cavalleria Toscana makes both grip types in the same high-waisted line, so you can choose without changing waist height.
Two colours for every day
Espresso and Windward Blue come from Cavalleria Toscana's recent colour range for this model. They are colours for training and everyday riding, not competition colours. If you are looking for competition breeches in the same model, Maddelin also stocks a version with a white variant.
How the breeches are made
The grip is transparent and limited to the knee; according to the brand, that gives the stability you need. At the top is a high waistband. On its inside is a strip of grip which, according to Cavalleria Toscana, gives a good fit over your shirt, and the belt loops are wide enough for a riding belt. At the bottom, the legs finish in stretch-knit sock cuffs that sit comfortably in your riding boots.
Fabric and composition
According to Cavalleria Toscana, the technical jersey has four-way stretch. The brand also describes the fabric as breathable, quick-drying and easy care. The composition per component:
- main fabric: 75% polyamide, 25% elastane
- second fabric: 95% polyester, 5% elastane
- lining: 100% cotton
Cavalleria Toscana does not mention a fastening or pockets for this model. Nor does the brand state the country of manufacture.
Sizes XS to L
Cavalleria Toscana uses Italian sizes. In Maddelin's conversion, XS equals IT 38, S equals IT 40, M equals IT 42 and L equals IT 44. Both colours are available in those four sizes.
