Product Information

The BR single jointed loose ring Sweet Iron Magic System 14 mm is an anatomically shaped horse bit that combines the flexibility of a broken mouthpiece with extra control. The patented Magic System prevents the mouthpiece from bending completely. This maintains the flexibility of a single jointed loose ring snaffle, while limiting its action. BR recommends this model for experienced horses and riders and for strong horses.

About this bit

The mouthpiece is made of mild steel with a blue Sweet Iron layer. This material reacts with moisture, heat, and air during use, causing it to oxidize. A sweet-tasting surface rust is formed, which stimulates saliva production and can contribute to the acceptance of the bit. The original blue color gradually disappears as a result. This is part of the Sweet Iron's function; the taste of the surface rust is retained.

Characteristic of this model is the Magic System. A normal single jointed mouthpiece hinges at one point and takes on a V-shape under the influence of the reins. The Magic System prevents the bit from bending completely, thereby limiting the extent to which the mouthpiece can buckle towards the tongue and palate. This system thus combines the flexibility of a broken bit with the control that a straighter mouthpiece can offer.

The anatomical shape follows the contours of the horse's mouth and ensures a soft and even distribution of pressure. The mouthpiece acts on the tongue, bars, and corners of the mouth and can also affect the palate, depending on the position and anatomy of the mouth. Because the mouthpiece has one hinge point, the tongue remains freer than with, for example, a double jointed mouthpiece.

With a thickness of 14 mm, this BR loose ring snaffle has a relatively slim mouthpiece. The solid stainless steel bit rings have a diameter of 65 mm and can move freely relative to the mouthpiece. These loose rings are characteristic of a loose ring snaffle and ensure that the mouthpiece lies relatively loose in the horse's mouth.

This version is particularly interesting if you want to combine the flexibility and mouthfeel of a single jointed loose ring snaffle with the limited bending of the Magic System. For horses that do not need this extra control, a standard single jointed loose ring snaffle can be a logical alternative.

This Magic System loose ring snaffle is particularly intended for situations where you seek more control than with a standard single-jointed loose ring snaffle, but still want to retain the flexibility of a jointed mouthpiece. BR indicates that this model is suitable for experienced horses and riders, and for strong horses.

When choosing, always pay attention to the available space in the horse's mouth, the correct bit size, and the horse's reaction to the chosen mouthpiece. Regularly check the bit for the condition of the mouthpiece, the hinge point, and the loose rings. The disappearance of the blue Sweet Iron color is a normal result of oxidation.

For whom?
For experienced horses and riders and for strong horses where a combination of flexibility and extra control is desired.

When to use?
When a regular loose ring snaffle offers a lot of freedom of movement and you are specifically looking for a mouthpiece whose full bending is limited by the Magic System.

In which discipline?
The model is not linked to one specific discipline. For competition use, always check whether the bit is permitted according to the applicable discipline rules.

When is an alternative better?
When extra control or limited bending is not needed, a standard single jointed loose ring snaffle may be a better fit. Another mouthpiece may also be more suitable if the horse's anatomy or preference requires it.

Attach the bit correctly to the bridle, ensuring an appropriate size and position in the horse's mouth. Use the Magic System with suitable rein aids and regularly check the mouthpiece, hinge, and loose rings. The blue Sweet Iron layer will oxidize during normal use and gradually change colour.
