The Boss Equestrian Norman Show Shirt is a white competition shirt for men with long sleeves, a button-down collar and a removable tie clip. Boss Equestrian combines a cotton blend in the main panel with power-stretch in the side panels, so the shirt looks classic and still moves with you. Available in sizes XS to XXL.
About this competition shirt
Boss Equestrian calls the Norman a hybrid show shirt, and that term covers exactly what the model does. The main panel is made from a cotton blend, the side panels from a power-stretch fabric. The shirt therefore lies smooth at the front like a classic shirt, while the stretch sits at the sides, where your torso and shoulders move. In the saddle that is the difference from a fully woven shirt, which starts to pull sooner when you take up the rein or over a fence.
The finishing is classic. The button-down collar has a button at each point, so those points stay put instead of curling away under your jacket. Below the button fastening sits a removable tie clip, which holds your tie or stock in place and which you can also take out. A BOSS logo in a contrasting colour sits on the chest; for the rest the shirt stays plain white. The cut is slim.
There is one point where Boss Equestrian's statement is not complete. The brand describes two different materials in this shirt, but gives a single composition in the material field: 75% polyamide and 25% elastane, in which no cotton appears. Which composition belongs to the cotton-blend main panel and which to the power-stretch side panels is not stated. The composition given is taken over here as it stands on the brand's page, without assigning it to a component.
The long sleeves make this model usable in the classes where sleeve length comes into play. Competition dress rules differ by federation, by discipline, by level and by country, and they are revised regularly. So check the current rules of your own federation before you enter. In showjumping the FEI prescribes a white collar, white cuffs with long sleeves and a white tie, stock or choker; for children and pony riders the whole shirt must be white. If someone rides without a jacket in very warm weather, which the ground jury may allow, the shirt must then have sleeves in showjumping: with long sleeves you are within the rule on that point. In dressage the FEI rules only say that the stock or tie must be white or off-white, while the Belgian rules require a white shirt and ask for sleeves that cover at least the shoulders when no jacket is worn.
One limitation that comes with this model: long sleeves and a cotton blend in the main panel are warmer on a hot summer day than a thin technical shirt with short sleeves. And a plain white shirt with a cotton blend is sensitive to stains and creases.
