Product Information
The Boss Equestrian Viola Knitted Puffer Vest is a quilted bodywarmer with a feminine cut. Boss describes the model as a modern quilted bodywarmer that combines warmth with maximum freedom of movement, suitable for riding, training, and everyday use. This is precisely where a bodywarmer proves its worth in winter: warmth around your torso, without your arms being restricted.
The outer fabric is a 350T pongee made of 100% polyester, 110 g/m², with a waterproof finish. Boss provides concrete values: a water column of 10,000 mm and a vapor permeability of 10,000 g/m² per 24 hours, both measured according to the JIS standard. With these specifications, the fabric keeps out ordinary rain while allowing moisture to escape from within, so you don't feel clammy when you get warm yourself.
You immediately notice the advantage of a sleeveless model in the saddle: your torso stays warm while arms and shoulders remain completely free. No fabric pulling when you bring your hands forward, no bulk under your armpits. Boss deliberately keeps the padding light, so the bodywarmer has minimal volume and can also be worn under a looser jacket.
The sporty stand-up collar with a ribbed knitted inner collar fits snugly around your neck and keeps the wind out; the model owes its name to this knitted detail. At the front, there are two zip pockets where you can safely store your phone and small items, even when bending down to pick out a hoof.
The finishing is understated: there is a faux leather logo patch on the chest, otherwise Boss lets the quilted lines do the work. What Boss does not specify is the filling material. The filling is described as light, but there is no information in the specifications about its composition or insulation value. Therefore, we do not assign a warmth class to it.
The Viola suits riders who spend a large part of their winter outdoors and want warmth without sacrificing arm freedom. If you want your arms to be protected from wind and rain, a quilted jacket with sleeves is the more logical choice. And if you are only looking for a thin mid-layer under a winter jacket, a fleece or a knitted vest will suffice.
