Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

The Boss Equestrian Long Island Teddy dressage saddle pad is a dressage saddle pad with a striking faux teddy fur binding. It has a multi-layer construction with a fully cotton lining, the characteristic Double B quilting and an embroidered Boss logo. It is intended for dressage riders who want to give their equipment a distinct accent.

About this saddle pad

The Boss Equestrian Long Island Teddy dressage saddle pad is specifically cut for use under a dressage saddle. Its shape follows the longer line that goes with it, so the pad stays sitting neatly under the saddle in daily training and at competition.

The material build-up consists of several layers. The outside is a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. Underneath sits an insulating layer of 100% polyester. The lining on the inside, the side that lies against the horse's coat, is 100% cotton. The quilted pattern holds those layers together and at the same time gives the surface its structure.

What sets this version apart from the regular Long Island saddle pad is the faux teddy fur binding all the way around. It gives the pad a soft, distinct edge and a recognisable silhouette in the arena. This is faux fur, so not real animal fur.

For the rest, the design stays true to the Boss Equestrian style: the surface is quilted with the Double B quilting and an embroidered Boss logo sits on the left-hand side.

When tacking up, always lay the saddle pad flat and free of folds on the horse's back, then check that it sits correctly under the dressage saddle. Also make sure the teddy edge at the front stays clear of the wither.

After riding, remove loose hair and dirt from the cotton lining and the teddy edge. If the pad has become damp, let it dry completely before you use it again. If you ride daily, it is therefore worth keeping a second pad on hand.

This Teddy version is intended for dressage riders looking for a saddle pad with a cotton lining and a clearly recognisable finish. You use it both for daily work and at competition, under a dressage saddle.

If you want a dressage saddle pad with the same material composition but without the striking faux fur edge, the regular Long Island version is the more logical choice. If you mainly ride in a jumping saddle, choose a jumping saddle pad: the shape of this model is geared to dressage.
