Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

The Boss Equestrian Long Island dressage saddle pad is cut specifically for use under a dressage saddle. It combines a multi-layer build with a full cotton lining, the distinctive Double B quilting and a large embroidered Boss logo. It is made for dressage riders who want to combine function with a well-groomed look.

About this saddle pad

The Boss Equestrian Long Island dressage saddle pad was developed for dressage and therefore has a different purpose from a jumping saddle pad. Its shape follows the longer saddle flaps typical of a dressage saddle, which keeps the pad sitting neatly under the saddle without sticking out at the front.

The build consists of several layers. The outside is a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. Inside sits an insulating layer of 100% polyester, and the lining is entirely cotton. That cotton side is the one in contact with the horse's coat while you ride.

Visually, the Long Island saddle pad stands out through the Double B quilting. This stitched pattern gives the surface structure and at the same time keeps the various material layers bonded together. On the left-hand side, the pad is finished with a large embroidered Boss logo.

You use this saddle pad both for daily dressage training and at competitions.

For correct positioning, place the saddle pad carefully under the dressage saddle. Lay it flat on the horse's back, avoid folds and check once more after saddling up that it sits evenly under the saddle.

After riding, remove loose hair and dried sweat from the cotton lining and let the pad dry fully before you use it again. If you ride dressage daily, it is handy to alternate between two saddle pads.

This model is mainly of interest when you are specifically looking for a Boss Equestrian dressage saddle pad with a cotton lining and a recognisable brand finish, for training and competition.

If you mainly ride in a jumping saddle, you are better off with a jumping saddle pad whose shape is matched to that type of saddle.
