Product Information

The Boss Equestrian Jerome Cable Knit Troyer is a knitted jumper with a short zip on a stand-up collar and a distinctive cable knit structure. Boss Equestrian describes this model as a smart, warm garment for cold days. It is not technical riding wear, but a layer that you can wear just as well in the stable as outside.

The fabric consists of 55% acrylic and 45% cotton. This ratio does two things at once: the cotton makes the inside soft and skin-friendly, while the acrylic keeps the weight down and helps the cable pattern maintain its shape. A pure wool jumper insulates more strongly, but also builds up more weight and volume under a jacket.

The real difference with a regular collar is the short zip. When mucking out, lunging or carrying bales, you get warmer faster than you expect, and then you can open the zip a bit to release heat without taking off an entire layer. If you then get on, you can close it again up to your chin.

Boss Equestrian has finished the zip with Alcantara along the tape. This is not just decoration: with a closed collar, the top of the zip rests directly against your throat, and this soft trim keeps the metal off your skin. The stand-up collar closes high enough to keep out draughts when it's windy in the arena.

The sleeves and hem have ribbed cuffs. Boss explicitly links these to fit and shape retention, and you can tell: the sleeves stay put when you push them up to straighten a blanket, and the hem is less likely to creep up under a bodywarmer. A discreet imitation leather logo patch completes the finish.

The Jerome is not tied to a single discipline and is not positioned by Boss Equestrian as technical riding wear. It belongs in the stable, on the road and in everyday life. If you are looking for a thin, elastic layer to actually ride in, a technical training shirt is more suitable. If you prefer a fully closed neck without a zip, look for a model with a fixed roll neck.

The short zipper is the most useful detail in the stable. When mucking out, lunging, or dragging bales, your body temperature quickly rises; open the zipper a bit and you can release heat without taking off a layer. Outdoors or in the arena, zip it all the way up to your chin.

For riding itself, this is not a technical layer. Boss Equestrian makes no claims about stretch, moisture-wicking, or breathability for this model. Also, keep in mind that a cable knit structure has more volume than a flat sweater: it will feel bulkier under a slim-fit jacket than you might be used to.

For whom? For riders who want a warm knitted jumper with an openable collar, with a neat finish for the stable and beyond.

When to use?On cold days while grooming, feeding, mucking out, on the way to the stable, and just in everyday life.

For which discipline? The Jerome is not discipline-specific and is not described by Boss Equestrian as technical riding apparel.

When is an alternative better? If you want a neck that is always completely closed, choose a jumper with a fixed turtleneck. If you are looking for a thin, elastic layer for actual riding, then a technical training shirt would be more suitable.

Wear the Jerome as a warm layer in the stable, on the go or at home, and use the short zipper to regulate your temperature. Close the zipper before washing to prevent the teeth from damaging the knit, and wash at 30 °C on the delicate cycle. Bleaching, ironing, dry cleaning, and tumble drying are not recommended on the label. Afterward, lay the sweater flat to dry: wet knitted acrylic-cotton that is hung up will stretch at the shoulders and hem.

What exactly is a troyer?
A troyer is a sweater with a short zipper at the neck instead of a full closure. You pull it over your head and use the zipper to regulate how much warmth you retain.

Is the Boss Equestrian Jerome technical riding apparel?
No. Boss Equestrian describes the Jerome as a warm knitted sweater for cold days and does not attribute technical features such as stretch or moisture-wicking properties to it.

Why is there Alcantara around the zipper?
The soft trim ensures that the metal of the zipper does not come directly into contact with your neck or chin when you zip the collar all the way up.

How do you wash this cable-knit sweater without stretching it?
Wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle, do not tumble dry, and lay flat to dry. Hanging a wet knitted sweater is the most common reason why acrylic-cotton loses its shape.

How does the Boss Equestrian Jerome fit?
The available product specifications do not provide information about the fit or sizing. Therefore, no additional sizing advice is given here.
