Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

The Boss Equestrian Hampton Saddle Pad Jump is a jumping saddle pad for riders who want to combine a functional pad with the recognisable finish of Boss Equestrian. The model is made as a jumping saddle pad, with a Double B quilted pattern, a large embroidered Boss logo on the left side and a multi-layer construction with a 100% cotton lining.

About this saddle pad

The Hampton saddle pad is intended for use under a jumping saddle. A saddle pad forms the layer between the horse and the saddle: it absorbs sweat, keeps your saddle cleaner and provides more even contact with the back. This model is specifically shaped for show jumping and is therefore a logical choice for jumping riders who want to match their equipment to that discipline.

The construction is multi-layered. The outside consists of a combination of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. Inside there is an insulating layer of 100% polyester, while the lining is entirely cotton. That cotton lining is the layer that lies directly against your horse. It is exactly that combination which sets the Hampton apart from simple saddle pads made of a single material: here each layer has its own function and composition.

Characteristic of the design is the Double B quilting. The quilted pattern gives the pad its recognisable Boss Equestrian look, but at the same time holds the different material layers together so the construction does not shift. On the left side the design is finished with a large embroidered Boss logo. The emphasis in this model therefore lies on three things: a specific jumping shape, a multi-layer material construction and a pronounced brand finish.

When tacking up, lay the pad flat on the back and pull it up into the wither before you tighten the girth. Check that there are no folds anywhere under the saddle tree: that is the most common cause of uneven pressure, and it is solved with a single move.

Because the lining is cotton, it takes up moisture during work. So let the pad dry out well after a sweaty training session before you use it again. Shake loose hair out before you store it, so you need to wash it less often. If you want the same material construction but prefer a more pronounced finish, the Hampton model also comes in a version with teddy binding.

This saddle pad is primarily intended for jumping. It suits riders looking for a pad with a clear brand finish, a cotton lining against the coat and a multi-layer construction, and who want that combination in their daily jumping equipment.

If you are looking for a saddle pad for a dressage saddle, you are better off with a model designed specifically for the longer and straighter shape of a dressage saddle. And if you find this model a little too plain, the version with teddy finish from the same line is an alternative with the same material composition.
