Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

The Boss Equestrian Cheltenham Jump saddle pad is a breathable jumping saddle pad with a comfortable fit and a soft inner lining. It is designed specifically for jumping saddles and made for riders who want a stable pad with a well-groomed BOSS look, in training and at competitions. Machine washable according to the care label.

About this saddle pad

The Boss Equestrian Cheltenham Jump saddle pad is cut to the shape of a jumping saddle. That is more than a detail: a jumping saddle has a shorter, more forward-set flap, and a pad that does not follow that shape either sticks out or ends up underneath the flap. The Cheltenham falls neatly around the saddle, which benefits both how it sits and how it looks.

Under the saddle, the pad does what it is meant to do. The breathable material lets heat and moisture escape instead of trapping them under the saddle, and the soft inner lining rests against the coat to help reduce pressure and friction. In jumping work, where your horse works in short, powerful efforts and the saddle moves more, that is exactly where a pad proves its worth.

The fit keeps the pad stable under the saddle, so it does not slide backwards or creep up onto the wither. The pad also has the elegant look you expect from BOSS, which makes it as at home at a competition as in daily training. It is machine washable according to the care label, so it is fresh and presentable again after a day's work.

Lay the pad straight on the back and pull it well up into the wither when saddling up, before you tighten the girth. That way the soft inner lining stays flat against the coat and no fold forms over the spine, which would do exactly the opposite of what a pad should achieve.

Knock or brush the pad out after every session and let it air dry before storing it. For a more thorough clean it can go in the machine, according to the care label. Close hook-and-loop fastenings before washing so they do not catch on the fabric, and let the pad dry hanging up rather than in the tumble dryer.

Choose this saddle pad when you jump and want a pad that falls neatly under your jumping saddle, ventilates well and looks smart, in training as well as at competitions.

If you ride dressage, you are better off with a dressage model from our range, for example the Cambridge Dressage: a jumping cut falls short under a dressage saddle. And if you are looking for markedly more cushioning under the saddle, look at a more thickly padded option.
