Boss Equestrian Ally Training Sweater Cardigan Ladies

The Boss Equestrian Ally Training Sweater Cardigan is a full-zip sweatshirt made of American fleece. Boss describes the cut as sporty with an elegant touch, and that's an accurate description: it's the kind of vest you put on in the morning to groom and can comfortably keep on if you need to go somewhere afterwards.

The fabric consists of 95% cotton and 5% elastane. This high cotton content gives the vest a soft, natural feel, while the small amount of elastane ensures the material stretches when you move your arms forward. The vest is produced in Portugal.

The inside is brushed, which Boss says contributes to wearing comfort. In practice, you feel a soft, slightly fluffy inside against the skin, even when you wear the vest over a thin training shirt. Boss doesn't provide an insulation value, so we deliberately refer to comfort here and not thermal insulation.

The vest closes with a full-length zipper and has a stand-up collar. There are pockets on the sides. This continuous zipper is more practical than it sounds on paper: you can put the vest on and take it off without having to force your head through the neck opening, even with your helmet already on.

The branding is limited to a faux leather patch on the left sleeve. Otherwise, Boss keeps it plain and understated, making the vest easy to combine with the rest of your riding apparel.

The Ally is not discipline-specific: you wear it during training, in the stable, or on the way to a competition. If you're looking for a true winter layer, you'll be better off with a lined jacket or bodywarmer, as Boss does not specify any insulation or water-repellent properties for this model. And if you prefer a technical, quick-drying mid-layer, a functional vest made of synthetic material would better meet that demand.
