BR Stirrup Treads Square Black 12 cm

The BR square stirrup pads are rubber inserts for your stirrups, in black and in size 12 cm. They lie on the footbed of the stirrup and give the sole of your boot grip through a ribbed profile. Because the front and back are rounded, your foot can sit in different positions without meeting a hard edge. Meant for riders who want to replace treads that have worn down or gone slippery.

About these stirrup treads

A stirrup pad is the rubber plate that lies in the bottom of your stirrup, on the footbed your boot rests on. That plate does the actual work: the steel or aluminium of the stirrup itself is smooth, and it is the rubber that creates the friction between boot sole and stirrup. Rubber wears faster than the stirrup around it, and that is exactly why stirrup pads are sold separately. A stirrup that starts to feel slippery is therefore rarely a stirrup that is finished.

This model is straight in shape, with a ribbed profile. The front and back of the pad are rounded off, which gives your foot more freedom in different positions: it does not come up against a straight end edge when you push it a little further into the stirrup or draw it a little further out. The pad has no cut-out and therefore fits almost all standard stirrups, such as Fillis stirrups. Stirrups with a fixed built-in tread, as you see on many modern aluminium and composite models, are not meant to take a separate pad.

The pads are made of 100 per cent natural rubber, non-toxic and free of PAHs. You get them per pair, so that left and right are the same age: two pads of different wear do not feel the same underfoot, and you notice that sooner than you would think. No fitting is needed, the pad simply drops into the stirrup.

Within the BR stirrup pads, this is the ribbed profile with rounded edges. The BR classic stirrup pads have a studded profile; the rounded front and back are what set this version apart. Ribs give a slightly flatter, more even contact along the whole length of your boot sole; studs bite in a more pointed way. Which one you prefer depends on your boot sole and on how you are used to placing your foot in the stirrup. The rubber is the same in both cases.

What you should not expect from this item: it comes in one size and one colour. Black, 12 cm. If you ride with stirrups of 11 cm or narrower, this pad will not fit. Rubber is also a part that gets used up: after one or two seasons of intensive riding the profile is flatter than on delivery, and you simply replace it again.
