Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.
Rugs
How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.
Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.
The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Two kinds of black leather in one dressage boot: on this De Niro Bellini, the leg is made in Patent Black and the foot in Brushed Black. The Rondine top (G9) carries decoration GGL83 with Swarovski crystals in four sizes, according to its specification this pair has a 10 cm arch, and there is a padded insert behind the knee. Size 39, height MA, calf M.
About this riding boot
Leg and foot in different leathers
When you order from De Niro, you can choose the leather for the leg and the leather for the foot separately. That is what was done on this pair: the leg is made in Patent Black, the black patent finish, and the foot in Brushed Black. Both belong to what De Niro calls its special, delicate leathers; Brushed, which De Niro calls a lacquer leather, is not the same as Patent, its patent leather. Because these are two different leathers, the care also differs between leg and foot.
Rondine top with engraved crystal pattern
At De Niro, G9 is the Rondine top design. The top carries decoration GGL83, from the range De Niro calls GG Luxory: Swarovski crystals in four sizes, from SS06 to SS20, which is from about 1.5 to 4.6 mm, set into an engraved pattern. The stones on this pair were ordered in the colour Black Hematite. The leather of the top is not included in the product data.
10 cm arch
At De Niro, an arch is a raised section at the front and top of the leg: the front rises higher than the back. The standard Bellini has no arch. According to its specification, this pair has a 10 cm arch. That is separate from the height class: height MA remains the measurement of the leg itself.
Comfort Knee
In the product name this option is called Knee support; De Niro calls it Comfort Knee: a padded insert at the back, level with the hollow of the knee. The option is only available on dressage and polo models.
The Bellini basics
The Bellini is De Niro's dressage model with a slim, shaped ankle, a 9 mm YKK zip at the front inside, a boned strip at the back and outer stiffening in Comfy stiffness. Inside: a full natural calf leather lining and a removable activated carbon insole. Underneath: a leather sole with Vibram outsole and double stitching. De Niro makes its boots by hand in Casarano, Italy.
Black with crystals: what do the rules say?
In terms of colour, this is a black boot, and black appears in every dressage rulebook. The crystals in the top are the point to watch. In dressage, the FEI asks for black or a dark colour and says nothing about decoration on boots. The Belgian national dressage rules ask for black, single-coloured boots or boots in the colour of the riding jacket, and Paardensport Vlaanderen for black or the colour of the jacket. Whether crystals on a black boot still count as single-coloured is not set out in the rules; check with your federation or the organiser beforehand. The LRV asks for black boots and expressly allows detail decoration on riding boots. Rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country and change regularly: check the rulebook in force or ask your federation before you compete in them.
