About this competition shirt

This model comes from an older collection. The licence holder's official product data run up to the current seasons today, and the Avon no longer appears there. No fibre composition is documented by the manufacturer for this model, and none is given here. Borrowing one from a comparable model does not work: within this line the compositions run from polyester blends to polyamide blends, with widely differing elastane shares. The same goes for the washing instructions, the fabric weight, the type of fastening, any mesh panels and the country of manufacture.

What is established is the type: a long-sleeve competition shirt for women, in plain white. Long sleeves are no detail in this category. In showjumping the FEI prescribes a white collar, white cuffs with long sleeves and a white tie, stock or choker; for children and pony riders the whole shirt must be white, and short sleeves are permitted there. A white shirt with long sleeves therefore answers those requirements. In dressage the FEI rules only say that the stock or tie must be white or off-white; they prescribe nothing about the shirt itself. The Belgian rules are more concrete and require a white shirt, with sleeves that cover at least the shoulders when no jacket is worn.

In very warm weather the ground jury may allow riding without a jacket. In showjumping the shirt must then have sleeves, short or long; sleeveless is excluded. The rules name no temperature threshold: the jury judges that itself. With long sleeves you are within the rule on that point, but on a hot day a long-sleeve shirt is warmer than a short-sleeve model. That is a trade-off you make yourself.

Competition dress rules differ by federation, by discipline, by level and by country, and they are revised regularly. So check the current rules of your own federation before you enter. Note alongside that there is no FEI rule about the shirt in dressage: the international rules only set the colour of the stock or tie there. It is precisely on that point that the Belgian rules are stricter than the international ones, the other way round from what many riders expect.

Two limitations worth knowing in advance. The size range has shrunk sharply: only XXS (EU32 - IT36) and XS (EU34 - IT38) are still available, so anyone wearing a larger size will not get far here. And a plain white shirt shows sand, stable dirt and stains; because no washing instructions from the manufacturer are available for this model, the care label in the garment itself is the only reliable guide.
