Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information

The Acavallo Almond Shampoo is a 500 ml coat shampoo from Acavallo's Stable Ritual range. You apply it with water and rinse it out afterwards: this is the wash itself, not the finishing touch. It forms the basis of the brand's almond line, which uses exactly this name and size.

About this shampoo

Acavallo sells this product as Almond Shampoo 500 ml. Our title and our size match that, which is not the case for every product in this range. It is an ordinary rinse-out shampoo for the whole coat: mane, tail, neck, body and legs.

Within the almond line Acavallo also offers an Almond Dry Shampoo and an Almond Coat Polish. Those are three different products: the shampoo is used with water, the dry shampoo without, and the Coat Polish is a shine product for the coat. In our assortment the Coat Polish is listed under the title Acavallo Almond Gloss Detangler 500 ml.

Besides the almond line the range holds three more shampoos: the Coconut & Oat Silky Effect Shampoo 500 ml, the Honey & Vanilla Shampoo for Grey Horses 500 ml and a shampoo with citronella, geranium and neem in 500 ml. All three come in 500 ml, just like this shampoo: within the range you therefore choose on name and scent line rather than on volume.

About the formula itself we stay brief, and that is deliberate. For this product Acavallo publishes no ingredients list, no pH, no dilution and no warnings. As long as that information is not public, you therefore only read type, use and size here; the legally required information is on the label of the bottle.

Wet the whole coat first with lukewarm water. Apply the shampoo with a sponge or a soft washing brush and work from top to bottom, so the water runs downwards. Then rinse thoroughly until the water stays clear: shampoo left behind makes the hair harsh and attracts dust faster.

Acavallo states no dilution. Follow the label on the bottle; if you work from a bucket, start with a small amount and only add more if you get too little lather. Avoid the eyes, nose and ears and use lukewarm rather than hot water.

Do not wash more often than needed and pick a spot out of the wind. After rinsing, take the water off with a sweat scraper and let the coat dry before you rug the horse or turn it back out.

This shampoo suits riders who want a simple rinse-out shampoo for an ordinary wash: after work in summer, before a competition day or when grooming alone no longer does the job. It is tied to no discipline and no coat colour, as the brand says nothing about either.

If you have a grey horse or a lot of white in the coat, the Acavallo Honey & Vanilla Shampoo For Gray 500 ml is more specific. If you want the same range with a conditioner, choose the Acavallo Coconut & Oat Shampoo 500 ml with the Acavallo Coconut & Oat Conditioner 250 ml. If you cannot work with water, in winter for instance, the Veredus Easy White dry shampoo 500 ml is an alternative.

For this shampoo Acavallo publishes no directions for use, dilution or warnings. Follow the label on the bottle. General advice: wet the coat with lukewarm water, apply the shampoo with a sponge or washing brush, avoid the eyes, nose and ears, then rinse thoroughly. Take the water off with a sweat scraper and let it dry out of the wind. Store the bottle closed and above freezing.
