Lister A2/AC Medium blade 2.5 mm

Lubricate the blade regularly while clipping, roughly every ten minutes, and certainly before you start and when you stop. The oil lets the top and bottom blade run smoothly over each other and carries heat away; a blade running dry gets hot quickly and loses its edge faster. Brush the hair out of the teeth as you go and wipe the blade dry before you put it away.

For the blade tension, follow the instructions for your machine: too loose gives an uneven cut and pulls at the hair, too tight causes extra heat and wear. If the cut becomes slow or streaky, it is time to have the blade sharpened. Maddelin sharpens blades from all brands and for all machines. Choose the A2/AC Medium if you are doing a general clip and deliberately want to leave some coat on, for instance on a horse that still lives out after clipping or that you do not want to clip completely short.

If you want to work shorter, go to the A2F/AC Fine (1.4 mm), the A2C/AC Close (1.2 mm) or the A2S/AC Surgical (1.0 mm). If the coat is dirty or muddy, the CA2/AC Coarse with its 18 teeth is the better choice, even though the cutting height is the same. For a longer coat there is the Covercote within the same system, with 5.0 mm and 24 teeth.

Does this fit my clipper?
The blades of the Lister A series fit the Lister Star, Fusion, Eclipse, Liberty and Legend. If your machine is not listed, get in touch with us before you order. We will then check together which blade system your machine uses, because screw-on blades and snap-on blade sets are not interchangeable.

How much coat does this blade leave?
2.5 mm. Within the Lister A series that is at the longer end, so the horse keeps a short layer of coat after clipping.

What is the difference with the CA2/AC Coarse?
Both blades clip at 2.5 mm. The Coarse has 18 teeth and the Medium 35. The wider tooth spacing of the Coarse works more easily through a dirty or muddy coat; the Medium gives a finer clipping line on a clean coat.

Is this a good blade to start with?
It is the general-purpose blade of the series and leaves relatively much coat, which makes small unevennesses less noticeable than with a very short blade.

Do I get the top and bottom blade together?
Yes, the blades of the A series are supplied as a set. The top and bottom blade are matched to each other and are used together.

Can I have this blade sharpened?
Yes. Maddelin sharpens blades from all brands and for all machines. Hand them in cleaned; dirty blades carry a surcharge. Allow a waiting time of one to two weeks.

How often should I oil?
Roughly every ten minutes of clipping, and every time before and after use. Oil keeps the blades cool and lets them run smoothly over each other.

Why does my blade get hot while clipping?
Heat comes from the friction between the top and bottom blade and from hair caught between the teeth. Regular lubrication, brushing out as you go and a correct blade tension keep the temperature under control.
