Lubricate the head before you start and regularly while clipping. Oil reduces friction, keeps the head cooler and makes a difference to its lifespan. After use, brush the hair out from between the teeth and store the head dry. Never put the clipper away with dirt between the teeth, because that is what seizes up a head fastest.

If you are working on a dirty or sandy coat, brush the horse thoroughly first. Always clip a dry coat as well. If you have a thick, matted or curly coat in front of you, a coarse head with wider tooth spacing gets on better than this one; it does not give you different lengths, but it lets the coat pass more easily between the teeth.

Choose this head if you have a Wahl clipper with a 5-in-1 fitting and prefer working with one head rather than a set of separate ones. It is in its element in daily yard work, in competition preparation and in anything that comes down to finishing: head, neck, legs and tidying up previously clipped areas. The discipline makes no difference here, the result you are after does.

If you have to take a full winter coat off a big horse, you will get on faster with a larger clipper and wider heads from our range. If you are mainly dealing with a thick or matted coat, go for the coarse version. And if your clipper works with A5 snap-on blade sets, this head is of no use to you.

You change the setting with the small lever on the head, without taking anything apart, even in the middle of a clip. Brush the horse thoroughly first and always clip a dry coat. Oil the head before you start and regularly while clipping.

After use, brush the hairs out from between the teeth and store the head dry; never put it away with dirt between the teeth. On a thick, matted or curly coat you get on faster with the coarse version.

Will this fit my clipper?
Only Wahl clippers with a 5-in-1 fitting, such as the Adore, Admire, Adelar and Arco. If your machine is not listed or you do not know which system it uses, get in touch before you order.

Can I use this head on an Aesculap, Andis or Heiniger?
No. Those clippers work with A5 snap-on blade sets. That is a different fitting system. A 5-in-1 head does not go on them.

What does Diamond mean?
Diamond refers to the coating, not to a product line. It is a layer of Diamond-like Carbon on stainless steel, which makes the cutting edge more wear-resistant.

Why do the setting numbers not match my other blade sets?
Because Wahl uses its own numbering for the 5-in-1 system. Here setting 15 is 1.9 mm, whereas an A5 blade set numbered 15 from other brands clips at around 1.2 mm. Always compare in millimetres.

What is the difference with the coarse blade set?
The cutting heights are identical. The difference is in the tooth spacing: on the coarse version the teeth sit further apart, which helps on a thick, curly or matted coat. So the coarse head does not clip longer, it simply lets the coat through more easily.

How often should I oil it?
Before you start and regularly while clipping. A dry head runs hotter and goes blunt sooner.

Which areas is this head for?
With a 46 mm cutting width it is mainly at home on the head, neck, legs and finishing work. For a full clip on a big horse you will get on faster with a wider clipper.
