why is the brown color of iso-Betadine® an advantage?
You can see where you have applied iso-Betadine®. The brown area indicates the part of the wound that has already been disinfected and is therefore already protected.
Iodine has a brown color. As the iodine is used up, that brown color gradually disappears (that is, it changes from brown to light yellow). When the color has disappeared, you know that all the iodine has been used up and iso-Betadine® has to be reapplied. This way you are always sure that the wound is well protected against micro-organisms. When iso-Betadine® is applied under a compress, some parts will be more discolored than others. This is because more microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi) were present in these parts. So more iodine was needed to kill these microorganisms. iso-Betadine® should be reapplied to the discolored areas.
